We assume sun shone in the Garden of Eden.
We assume Alex’s skin lusted for skin in the Garden of Eden.
There is little chance we can go beyond assumption.
In the case of Alex’s skin lusting for skin in the Garden of Eden, maybe this is a clue,
— Genesis 2, 15-22
“18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
“19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
“But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh.”
Eve does not come out of Alex’s lust for skin. Though in the Garden of Eden, and though definitely having skin, pretty skin, Alex is pretty much out of it, a zombie. He doesn’t lust or desire. Alex is put in the Garden to work. He is oblivious.
Please note: here we are in the second chapter of Genesis, the first Book in the Bible, and already the word work rears its ugly head.
Alex’s been placed by God in the Garden of Eden, to be a gardener. This is a fantastic garden of earthly delights. Should be a fun place to garden and play in the dirt. Fertile dirt of earthly delights. Though work is seldom, if ever, delightful,if it can ever be delightful, it would be here, in the Garden of Eden.
Yet delight, fun, and pleasure — in this paradise– have no bearing.
God needed a garden. God created the Garden of Eden. God needed a gardener. God created Alex. God saw Alex needed a helper. (Alex did not ask God for a helper. God didn’t notice Alex’s lust, either. There was no lust.) God saw the need– and we say need not desire. God created Eve.
