Alex never felt devoted to his mother, though that was expected of him.
Like all his brothers and sisters, indeed his mother and father too, Alex was a mammal. In order to survive, mammals must know their mothers, and be in intimate contact with them, be nurtured by them. Mammals get food from the mother, until the mother decides her young mammal be “weened”.
His mother didn’t want him to settle down, or “earn”.
His mother didn’t want him to “yearn”.
His mother didn’t remind him of Eve.
His mother didn’t remind him he needed to go get an Eve, or be receptive to God giving him “one”.
His mother was a stickler on the “one” part.
