Alex sought refuge and sanctuary wherein to dawdle and dream.
The sanctuary would be in the Garden of Eden, as it existed before the “arrival” of Eve.
Alex knew plenty about Eves, as he had known so many in New Orleans.
Alex was running to the pre-Eve Garden of Eden to get away from them.
