On the bank of a mile-wide river, Alex dawdles and dreams.
A kid named Alex, a young swamp rat, dang near a possum, legs dangling, toes soaking, sits alone next to the muddy water ofthe mighty Mississippi,
Mississippi’s acoustic waters raging and ranting, Alex’s fishing line is taut as a guitar string against the strong currents.
He’s not seriously fishing. The fishing is a pretext, to prevent guilt about dawdling and dreaming.
A swamp rat, dang near a possum, relaxing or not, feels guilt nearly all the time.
Lots of anxiety and depression accompany the overwhelming guilt.
No one gives a crap about the young swamp rat — but the young swamp rat is swamped by guilt, anxiety and depression.
Worst of all, Alex’s guilt is guilt over Alex’s innocent dawdling and dreaming.
