We are aware snakes have a hard time when there is flooding.
Flooding would be easier on them if they’d remained amphibians, or better yet, fish. Yet their blind evolutionary ambitions had driven them to leave that behind and become reptilia.
Reptilia is much more badass than, say, frogs and tadpoles and that kind of shit.
The tadpole nonsense is really, really silly. You want to be a frog, then go ahead and become a frog. Don’t go through this melancholic nostalgic phase of being part frog, part fish.
A tadpole is every bit as vulnerable as a minnow, and we know how vulnerable minnows are. People bate hooks with minnows.
Slade is a river snake, and he can swim. It is fantastic to watch him swim. He skims on top of the water, his scuttles giving him traction using just the surface tension of the water to propel forward. The sight of seeing Slade locomote on the top of the water is much the same as the sight of him scuttling about on sand, if he’d been designated a desert snake, a.k.a. a sand snake.
Yet Slade cannot make a permanent home in the water, the open water, or the water between reeds.
