Walt Whitman swaggered. He swaggered as a dandy. When he was used as a model for Old Saint Nick, or Santa Claus– did you know this, that our dear dandy friend Walt Whitman was a Santee Sioux aboriginal Santy Claus?
I love Walt Whitman, Howard Lutnick, and Santa Claus, all on Mannahatta, which I also love. I love Walt for suggesting we revert, or reconnect, or uphold an aboriginal cultural tradition, calling it Mannahatta, rather than Manhattan, or , Heaven Forefend, Hudson City.
(It would be completely logical to call Manhattan, as well as the greater NYC area, Hudsonia, or, assuming political jurisdiction privileges the city, a la city-state, Hudson City. Manhattan is an island, because it parts company with a truly great, rumbling river, we call the Hudson.)
Howard Lutnick swaggered. I’m pretty sure this very swagger placed Howard, Howard of the private sector, into Howard of the public sector, in charge of commerce. Commerce Secretary. Power of good.
