Some say by unknown writers, in Asia Minor, who revered the Possum Paul.

Some say by Yankee Doodle Dandy,

Please keep in mind Walt Whitman went through a dandy phase. Please keep in mind, though Leaves of Grass was published in 1860, and the Civil War, for “our” purposes, begins in 1861, wherein Walt Whitman– was a Yankee. A Yankee, who, indeed, loved to doodle, as in Mannahatta.
