Remember, it had been on July 20th, 1969, man walked on the moon.

Neil Armstrong, an astronaut, and the first man on the moon, said “it was one small step for a man– one giant leap for mankind.”

How many people tuned in on TV to view that historic moment?

An estimated six hundred fifty million people worldwide watched the 1969 moon landing, making it one of the most-watched television events in history at the time. In the United States, the event was watched by 93% of households with a television, with viewership estimates varying between 125 and 150 million Americans.

So, lets see: 45/650 = seven per cent.

Though Tiny Tim’s wedding to Miss Vicki was an impressive showing, real show bizz, it was small compared to the audience for the moon landing. Ninety three per cent watched the moon landing.
