Jean-Paul, along with Oscar and Walt (but not Alex Jones or Bob Guiccione), did keep alive the kindness of humanity in its profound awareness “we” do not need pain.
(Or “want” pain? In the matter of “wanting” versus “needing” things do get more tricky.)
Jean-Paul’d have the three of them chatting, and warming up to each other.
The warming up to each other would break the ice. Ice cubes stuck together in an ice cube tray can be broken more easily, if they have frozen into a formless mass, by leaving them out at room temperature. The delicate ice bridge between the individual cubes would melt first. The cubes, their bodies freed, as Mongolian twins are freed by surgery, if they are lucky, can go on to smell the percolating coffee, the cinnamon, raisins, and nuts (assuming the nuts have a smell– I believe so), and have a good conversation, a good dialogue.
