My only wish is to tell a very simple story.

To do so is not difficult.

In fact, this is already accomplished:

(1)A beautiful young woman leaves her loving Nebraska family and community to go to NYC.

The story is simple, mediocre (if it deserves ranking), and unoriginal.

Yet it is easily– and probably instantly– comprehendable.

I want to go one better, make one addition:

(2) A beautiful young woman, Adair, leaves her loving Nebraska family and community to go to NYC. There, she meets a woman named Ghislaine.

Though my opinion is the story is still about Adair, it might just as well be about Ghislaine. It could be about both Adair and Ghislaine. It might be about both Adair and Ghislaine, but then Adair fades away, having served her narrative function to introduce Ghislaine. Maybe people will think by starting with Adair, Ghislaine will be made more sympathetic. Adair is “innocent”? Maybe Ghislaine is “innocent”, too? Both came to NYC from elsewhere. Both have experiences in NYC they couldn’t anticipate or intend.
