Salt went round a Mannahattas in swirls. Guiccione, in his Mannahattas mansion, tomb-like, knows Oscar will not accept his invitation.
Oscar was a Dionysus figure, and so, supposedly, was Guiccione, so they should have been compatible.
Guiccione was in the popular parlance heterosexual, and Oscar, homosexual, in spite of his loving wife and two beautiful, immaculate sons. This could have made him bisexual, at the least.
What if, on Oscar’s American trip, the wife and sons had accompanied him? Especially the New England journey, which, of course, includes the Mannahattas portions.
Guiccione too had beautiful and immaculate sons, Bob Jr., and Nicholas.
We’re assuming neither Guiccione nor Oscar are snobs, nor somehow racist nor ethnocentric.
Both are voluptuaries and Dionysus figures. And authors, and into publishing. Into luxury, and the finer things of life. Both have good taste, salt lick, stance akimbo, water of the sea, dancing, in a sea spray, a tiny tear delicately drooping, with salt expressed– gotten out of “the system”.
